Files

The Files panel links a folder on your computer into Vexlynk so you can browse it and pull things onto the workspace.

This is desktop only. It needs a real filesystem, so the web companion does not have it.

Linking a folder

1. Open the Files panel
2. Choose a folder
3. Pick any folder on your machine

It appears in the panel, and you can browse it as you would in a file manager.

Nothing is copied, uploaded or moved

This is the part worth being precise about, because “add a folder to an app” usually means something heavier.

Vexlynk stores a reference to the path. Your files stay where they are, in the folder you chose. Nothing is duplicated into an app directory, nothing is uploaded, and Vexlynk does not read the folder’s contents until you ask it to open something.

Consequences worth knowing:

• Move or rename the folder and the link breaks — Vexlynk was pointing at the old path
• Edit a file in another program and Vexlynk sees the new version, because it is the same file
• Delete a file on disk and it is gone from the panel too — there is no second copy

Getting a file onto the workspace

Drag it from the panel onto the canvas. It lands as a card — an image renders, a document opens in an editor, and anything else becomes a file card you can open.

Files stay on your machine

Linked folders are not synced. Even with cloud sync on, what syncs is your workspace — the cards, their layout, their content — not the folders you have linked or the files inside them.

A workspace opened on another device shows the cards, and the file references point at a path that device may not have. See Privacy & Local-First.
